Our story has been unfolding around the table for decades - through conversations, encounters, smiles and moments that remain in memory. We want every guest to experience what a true traditional Serbian kafana is all about: a welcoming atmosphere, genuine hospitality and homemade food prepared with care.

The story of Kafana Gušter began back in 1988, when Momčilo Simović - Gušter, a native of the Gruža, decided to return after several decades spent in Kotor Varoš and continue his career in hospitality in his home region.

Together with his wife Vinka, he created a place that has remained open continuously for almost four decades. They did not build only a kafana, but a place where people gathered, met, celebrated and gladly returned.

Gušter lived with a true bohemian spirit. He was equally welcome among the young and the old, and his openness, cheerful nature and distinctive charisma remained in the memory of everyone who met him. He understood the soul of a kafana and knew that it was not founded solely on food and drink, but above all on people and the atmosphere they created together.

Vinka, an experienced and dedicated hospitality professional, was his faithful companion both in life and in business. Through her work, she gave the kafana its distinctive character and, together with him, helped it become a widely recognised destination.

Today, Dragan and Saška, together with their family, continue to develop this legacy, carefully preserving the spirit, memories and tradition from which the kafana was born - simplicity, a warm and homely atmosphere, and respect for every guest.

Times are changing, and even our Gruža is slowly losing the traditional kafana spirit for which it was once widely known. Nevertheless, dedication to their work, respect for the legacy entrusted to them, and the desire to welcome every guest warmly, serve them generously and see them off as a friend remain values they will never abandon.

Kafana Gušter is therefore more than just a place for good food and drink. It is part of an ongoing family story, a collection of cherished memories of dear people, and a story that is passed on and continued at every new table.
